Ellen M. Bauder

Ellen M. Bauder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ellen M. Bauder, a beloved matriarch, devoted wife, and cherished member of the Castor Gardens community. Ellen departed this life surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of thoughtfulness, wisdom, and unconditional love. She was the heart of her family, a guiding light through the years, and a steadfast presence in the lives of all who knew her.

The beloved wife of John Bauder, Ellen was a nurturing and devoted mother to Sherre A. Knable (Mitchell), John F. Jr. (Mary), Michael C. (Tiff Bashwinger), and Carl E. (Joann) Bauder. She was a treasured sister to Elwood, Timothy, James, Thomas, and Michael, and a loving grandmother to Brittany (Tom), Kyle, Paige, Meaghan (Ron), Amber, Grace, and Jimmy. Her joy extended to her great-grandchildren, Naomi and Milo, who brought her immense happiness and pride.

More than just a family member, Ellen was a crossing guard and a familiar, comforting figure in the community, always keeping a watchful and caring eye on the children of her neighborhood. To her grandchildren, she was a magical part of their childhoods—fondly remembered for sweet traditions like Easter egg hunts in the yard, birthday cakes made with care, and the loving way she prepared them for ballet recitals with lipstick and curlers. She embraced every role in her life with warmth—be it cheering on the Philly sports teams, dressing with radiant style, planning family trips, or demonstrating her love through thoughtful gifts big and small.

Ellen’s strength, laughter, and love will live on in the memories of those lucky enough to have known her. She was the foundation of her family, and her influence will be felt for generations to come. Her presence brought people together, and her spirit will continue to do so, long after her passing.

Relatives, friends, and fellow crossing guards are invited to honor and celebrate Ellen’s life on Tuesday, November 11th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at John F. Fluehr and Sons, located at 3301 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. Where a Service will begin at 11am. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park.
