Rita H. Cowden (Domzalski)

Rita H. Cowden (Domzalski), passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2025 at the age of 86. Born in Philadelphia on July 16, 1939. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Cowden. Daughter of the late Benjamin and Helen Domzalski. Sister of Constance Warminski (Edward) and the late Benjamin (late Marge). Aunt of Celeste Connelly and Joseph Domzalski.

Rita was the beloved mother of three children: Joseph Cowden (Barb Johnson), Rita Quigley (Michael), and Jason Cowden. Known to many as "Grandmom," Rita cherished her six grandchildren: Michael Quigley (Kellie), Jessica Quigley, Shawn Quigley (Corin Kleinbrahm), Chelsea Cowden, Shayna Cowden, and the late Joseph Cowden. Her love extended further to her great-grandchildren, affectionately known to them as "Gi Gi": Makayla Quigley, Ryan Quigley, Aubrigh Quigley, Gemma Quigley, Johnny Baranowski, Shawny Quigley, and Delaney Quigley.

A true Philadelphian at heart, Rita was a devoted fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies. She found joy and connection in cheering for her teams, and her spirited enthusiasm made watching games a cherished family tradition. Rita also delighted in boating outings with her family and relished time spent traveling to new places, always with a book in hand. A lover of words, Rita could often be found curled up for hours reading novels, working on crossword puzzles, or testing her knowledge with Jeopardy!

Rita will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle wisdom, and the deep love she shared with all those fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of devotion, strength, and love.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Rita's life at John F. Fluehr and Sons Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 3301 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19149, on Wednesday, November 5th, beginning at 6 PM. A service in her memory will follow at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to a charity of your choice, in keeping with her generous spirit and her heart for giving.
