Mario Sofia

Mario Sofia

Mario Sofia, a man of extraordinary integrity, deeply held family values and a hero to his family, shattered their hearts when he passed away in the early evening of June 6, 2023. He is now reunited with his wife Mary (Pizzo), the woman he loved with his entire being.

He was the son of James Sofia and Ida Milicci Sofia and brother of Joseph Sofia who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his pride and joys, his 3 sons: Paul Sofia (Linda), Joseph Sofia (Lisa), Christopher Sofia (Maria). Mario could not love his grandchildren: Christopher (Desiree), Jeffrey (Heather), Michael (Kendal), Vincent (Lauren), Philip, Nicole (Adam), Louis (Julie), Nicholas (Stephanie), Samantha and Joseph any more than he did. His great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Nathaniel, Teddi-Lynn, Paul, Gianna, Olivia, Mathew, Mario, Natalia, Jacob, Nicholas, Sonny, Logan and Mia were the apples of his eye.

Mario was instantly loved by all who knew him. He was generous, incredibly intelligent, patient and funny. His legacy is the family him and Mary started with 3 little boys that grew over the years to his delight. Mario loved family Sunday pasta dinners. Our family will never be the same without him here with us. We are comforted knowing both he and Mary will be forever watching over us until we meet again.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, St. Matthews Church, 3000 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, where relatives and friends will be received from 9:15 – 10:15 AM. Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, Mario’s family requests that you spend a special day with your family, or you may make a donation to the Baptist Home Foundation (where we worked until he retired) to 8301 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia PA 19152.
