Thomas C. Wermuth

Thomas C. Wermuth

Thomas C. Wermuth (age 84), beloved husband of Vivian Wermuth (nee Giordano) for 58 loving years, passed away peacefully on February 13th, 2023.

He was born & lived in Philadelphia (Fairhill Section) & resided most of this adult life in Mayfair as a member of St Matthews Parish in Northeast Philadelphia.

Growing up, he lived on N. Lawrence Street, but he hung out at 5th & Lehigh and graduated from Saint Bonaventure Grade School. He was a graduate of Roman Catholic High School (Class of 1956).

Tom was the beloved son of the late William (Bill) and the late Anna (nee Leszl) Wermuth and the brother to Marie (Edward), the late Jack (Judy) and Richard (Suzanne).

He was drafted in 1961 into the US Army and served with the 24th Infantry Division in Germany due to the Berlin Crisis, which ultimately led to the construction of the Berlin Wall. He served on active duty until 1963 and in the US Army reserves until 1967. He was very proud of his time in the service.

Tom spent most of his working career with Penn Mutual Life Insurance in Computer Operations, until an unexpected career change occurred, and he ended up working for the Internal Revenue Service. It was with the IRS that he remained until his retirement.

His favorite pastimes were reading his daily newspaper, doing the crossword puzzles and sitting on his front step/patio in his rocking chair greeting anyone who happened to venture by his view. He would always wave and say hello, greeting them like they were old friends. His greatest pastime were his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Aside from his wife Vivian, he is survived by his children Thomas W (Kellie), Michael (Jeanne), Jennifer (Lennie) and Kristin (Jeff) and his grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Giordana, Angelina and Giuliana.

Relatives and Friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life at St Matthews Church (3000 Cottman Avenue) on February 18th, 2023. Visitation will take place from 9:15-10:15 am followed by his mass of celebration at 10:30 am. Tom will be laid to rest at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery following his service.
